In Loving Memory: Prof. Emeritus George Haley (1927-2024)

We are saddened to share the news that George Haley, Professor Emeritus of Spanish Literature, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Haley was a celebrated educator and scholar who specialized in 16th and 17th century Spanish and Portuguese literature. He was especially renowned for his work on authors Miguel de Cervantes and Vicente Espinel.

Born in Lorain, Ohio, Prof. Haley earned an undergraduate degree from Oberlin College and two graduate degrees from Brown University. He joined the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures in 1959 and served as Chair from 1970 to 1973. During his time at the Department, Prof. Haley was esteemed and admired by students and colleagues alike.
