Laura Colaneri’s Students Explore and Celebrate Contemporary Women Writers in Latin America

This past Spring in Teaching Fellow Laura Colaneri's SPAN 24524 course, students explored the influence of contemporary women writers in Latin America. Throughout the quarter, they analyzed the work of Isabel Allende (Chile, 1942-), Rita Indiana (Dominican Republic, 1977-), Fernanda Melchor (Mexico, 1982-), and more.

Laura reports that "students contributed to a course website, which features biographical profiles on the Latin American women writers, reviews of course texts, and final projects analyzing key themes of gender and sexuality that were discussed in the course." Some students opted to present their findings through multimedia projects, including podcast episodes, a zine, and creative art and writing.
