Thomas Pavel, Gordon J. Laing Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in Romance Languages and Literatures, Comparative Literature, the Committee on Social Thought, and Fundamentals, has been awarded the Grand Prix de la Francophonie (2023), granted by the Académie Française to a person who has contributed to the presence and development of the French language throughout the world.
