Matthew Stahlman is a doctoral student in the Department of Germanic Studies and the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. His research focuses on French and German theater of the 17th through the 19th centuries, particularly as it pertains to the aesthetics of space and the sublime. Beyond research, Matthew has a professional interest in the craft of writing as it intersects with academic concerns. He is the co-translator, with R. Kevin Hill, of the forthcoming Oxford World’s Classics edition of Human, All Too Human by Friedrich Nietzsche, and also works as editorial assistant for the journal Word & Image, under the guidance of editor Catriona MacLeod.
