Julio holds a BA and Licenciatura in Hispanic Linguistics and Literature from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and a MA in Spanish and Portuguese from University of California, Davis.

His main interests involve how gender and race shape 19th century Latin American writing, drawing from biopolitics, necropolitics, decoloniality, gender studies, and anthropology. His essay “Feminidades alternativas en Dolores, de Soledad Acosta de Samper, y Aves sin nido, de Clorinda Matto de Turner” was included in Clorinda Matto en el siglo XIX (Fondo Editorial de la PUCP, 2022).
