Paolo Cherchi, Professor Emeritus, Earns Honorary Degree from the Sapienza University of Rome

Paolo Cherchi, Professor Emeritus of Italian and Spanish Literatures, will recieve an honorary doctorate degree from the Sapienza University of Rome (Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza") on October 30, 2024.

This is the first time that this degree will be bestowed upon a professor of Italian Literature teaching in the United States. A specialist in Medieval and Renaissance Italian and Spanish literatures, Paolo Cherchi has published 38 books, edited 14 volumes, and written over four hundred essays, as well as nearly one hundred book reviews. He taught at the University of Chicago from 1965 to 2003.
