Kicking Off the Academic Year: Instructor Orientation & Faculty Retreat

While students officially return to campus today, RLL faculty, instructors, and administrators have been busy preparing for the upcoming academic year.

On September 19th, 50 colleagues (including 11 new instructors) gathered for the annual Instructor Orientation. Attendees were welcomed by Alison James, Department Chair, and Maria Anna Mariani, Director of Undergraduate Studies. Other sessions included introductions to the Chicago Language Center, the Heritage Language Program, Languages for Specific Purposes, Languages Across the Curriculum, Instructional Design, Inclusive Syllabi, and an instructor scavenger hunt. Congratulations to our scavenger hunt winners: new instructors Aitana Cuenca Espinós, Etienne Labbouz, and Andrés Nicolás Rabinovich, who were led by Associate Instructional Professor Rebecca Petrush.

Held on September 22, the annual Faculty Retreat brought together scholars from across the Department. The morning was filled with conversation, collaboration, and good company!
