Office Hours: Monday 3:30-4:30 p.m.

I was born in La Dorada, a small city on the banks of the impressive Magdalena River in Colombia. I hold a BA in Basic Education with English Emphasis from La Universidad Distrital de Bogotá and a MA degree in Hispanic Literature and Cultural Studies from the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC). My research has focused mainly on the narratives that originates when nature co-writes within Latin American literature. I am interested in nature not only as a background for narrative and culture, but rather as an entity that dictates and molds, redefining and rewriting the human being. During my time as an instructor, I have had the opportunity to teach Spanish and English in the most diverse communities, both in public schools of Bogotá and at UIC. In my classes, I actively foster an environment in which my students feel welcome as unique and active agents with valuable experiences and opinions to contribute and impact each other’s learning experiences. Likewise, I encourage my students to participate in the world that opens up to them when they learn a new language, to embrace the multiple readings, points of view and opportunities that a new language can offer.
