Paulina holds a BA in History from Universidad Iberoamericana, Ciudad de México. She joined the RLL Department at the University of Chicago in 2018. Her research focuses on literatures and cultures of plague in the early modern Hispanic World. In her dissertation, she traces the way in which texts and subjects articulated the experience of plague and adapted materially and discursively to the circumstances of epidemic outbreaks throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Anchored in close readings of printed and archival materials from Spain and Mexico, her project shows how epidemics had a long-lasting impact in the socialization and circulation of knowledge, as well as in the emergence of new literary practices and the transformation of old ones in the early modern Hispanic world.

Research interests: Early Modern Literature; Colonial Latin American literature; Early modern historiography; book history; history of medicine; history of science; autobiographical writing; history of the body.
