Born in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, near Paris, I have long been passionate about travel and language learning. After completing undergraduate studies in English literature and civilization at the University of Paris X-Nanterre, I specialized in teaching French as a foreign language. I earned a Maîtrise in French as a Foreign Language from Paris X-Nanterre and a D.E.S.S. in teacher training from Paris III–Sorbonne Nouvelle. Before moving to Chicago in 2002, I taught French language courses for second-language learners of all ages in Australia, Belgium, and France.
Since joining the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures in 2002, I have taught French at all levels, with recent emphasis on novice- and intermediate-level courses. I also serve as first-year level coordinator and as the TalkAbroad liaison for the French program.
My primary interests are assessment and Language for Specific Purposes (LSP). I co-designed two Foreign Language Proficiency Assessments through the Chicago Language Center and developed FREN 145: French for Global Studies and Economics, a French for Professions course that I have taught each spring since 2020. I am currently collaborating with other UChicago language instructors on a domain analysis research project focused on languages for the health professions. As the parent of two French heritage speakers, I am also deeply committed to expanding the French heritage language offerings at UChicago.
