Programs in More Than One Literature

Students whose interests lie at the intersection of multiple Romance language and literatures may pursue one of our programs in more than one literature. In addition to the Major in Latin American and Iberian Languages, Literatures and Cultures, the Department offers a major and a minor program in more than one Romance language, literature, and culture.

Major program in Romance Languages, Literatures, and Cultures
This program consists of a total of twelve courses:

  • Two to four advanced language courses in at least two Romance languages
  • Eight to ten additional courses in Romance literatures and cultures, with at least two courses in two different Romance languages
  • BA paper (if the student wishes to qualify for honors)

Students who elect a major program in Romance Languages, Literatures, and Cultures must meet with the undergraduate adviser in each relevant language/literature before the end of Spring Quarter of their third year to declare their intention to complete the major and to complete the required paperwork. Students are strongly encouraged to build their own program in consultation with relevant RLLT undergraduate advisers. Students must submit to the departmental office an approval form for the major program signed by the relevant RLLT undergraduate advisers by the end of Spring quarter of their third year.

Minor program in Romance Languages, Literatures, and Cultures

This program consists of six courses:

  • At least two advanced language courses (one per relevant language)
  • The remaining courses may be selected in consultation with the relevant undergraduate advisers

Students who elect this minor program must meet with the undergraduate adviser in each relevant language/literature before the end of Spring Quarter of their third year to declare their intention to complete the minor and to complete the required paperwork. Students are strongly encouraged to build their own program in consultation with each relevant RLLT undergraduate adviser. Students must submit to the departmental office an approval form for the minor program signed by all relevant RLLT undergraduate advisers by the end of Spring Quarter of their third year.
