Ji Gao joined the department in 2013. At the University of Chicago, he plans to focus on French Renaissance literature from an interdisciplinary perspective, with particular attention to sociology and history. Ji Gao first encountered French in 2006 and soon decided to pursure an academic career in the field of French literature. He then went on to receive his B.A. and M.A. in French from Peking University (China) and to earn a Master’s Degree in Lettres Modernes (Littérature française) from the ENS de Lyon before coming to Chicago. During his previous studies, he taught French for non-specialists at Peking University, and worked as a Chinese instructor at the Language Center of the ENS de Lyon.

Research interests: Early Modern French literature and history

Dissertation: Guillaume Roville et Benoît Rigaud (1545-1597). Politiques éditoriales, contraintes économies et ambitions culturelles en France dans la seconde moitié du seizième siècle.
