March 24, 2026 (last updated on September 10, 2026)
The UChicago Student Literary Translation Prize was established in 2024 in memory of translator Farouk Abdel Wahab Mustafa. The prize recognizes outstanding undergraduate and graduate excellence in literary translation. The prize aims to foster awareness of and excitement about the art of literary translation, offer support for emerging translators, and occasion a celebration of student work.
The RLL department is proud to celebrate two finalists: graduate student Cole Botta (Italian), for a translation from the Italian of Federigo Tozzi and undergraduate student Ernest Leong (French, senior), for a translation from the French of Swiss writer Alexandre Voisard. Congratulations to these two students on their work!
On Monday, March 30th at 5pm in the Social Sciences Tea Room (201), there will be a reading of the student prize winners' works with judges Pouneh Shabani Jadidi and Matthew Smith. See the event details on the UChicago Calendar.
