Current Student

Juan joined the program in 2008. His main interests include Bibliography and Literature, printed and digital narratives, literature as a publication system, the history of books and literature. Next fall, Juan will present his field exams in Spanish golden age literature and the advent of the printing press. His dissertation will focus on copyright, piracy, and the construction of authorship in the XVI and XVII centuries. His secondary interests are: genre studies, noir narratives, violence fiction, men´s studies, and the twentieth century eastern European novel. Juan also writes fiction, and is currently finishing his second project: nos prometieron marcianos. Juan holds a BA in mathematics from the Universidad de los Andes and an MA in Latin American Literature from the Universidad Javeriana, both in Bogotá. Juan is a committed bike rider, lives with his beautiful wife Emma, his dog Bowie and his two cats in Hyde Park.
