Senior Lecturer, Italian Coordinator
Veronica Vegna specializes in teacher training and foreign language acquisition. A native speaker of Italian, Veronica studied in Italy, Spain and the UK. In England, she taught Spanish language and culture to undergraduates, coordinated the Spanish courses and lectured within the PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education - Modern Languages) at St Martin's College, Lancaster, where she devised and delivered the language learning experience element of the teacher training course. Veronica also taught other courses in the UK, including Italian language and culture in Adult Education and within a mentor training project promoted by the EU. She came to the U.S. as a Fulbright grantee. She currently teaches beginners, intermediate and advanced Italian language classes at the University of Chicago and coordinates the Italian language program.
She is presently working on a project funded by the Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning to create video clips of exemplary Italian lessons that will be used for teacher training purposes and as an example of a multisensory approach to language teaching. This project also aims at developing authentic audio and video materials with a variety of accompanying activities.
