Frederick de Armas' new book, El retorno de Astrea: astrología, mito e imperio en Calderón (The Return of Astrea: astrology, myth, and empire in Caldéron), is now available from the Biblioteca Áurea Hispánica.

According to the mythology of classical antiquity, the goddess Astrea was the last of the immortal beings that left the earth when the Golden Age gave way to the Bronze Age. They would later return darkest moment of the Iron Age and signal the start of a new era. Prof. de Armas' new book book explores the presence of this myth in Spanish literature of the Golden Age, particularly in the comedies of Calderón by examining mythological, astrological, and political clues.
