Professor Emeritus Paolo Cherchi has been elected to the Accademia dei Lincei, the oldest scientific academy in Europe. Election to the academy is the highest academic honor bestowed in Italy. 

Professor Cherchi retired in 2002 and was called to teach Italian literature at the Università di Ferrara, where he taught from 2003 to 2009. In ths years since his retirement, he has published five new books, two translations, over one hundred articles and notes, and at least twenty book reviews.
